Serves: 16
  • 1 (12-oz.) package beef hot dogs
  • ½ cup yellow cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Popsicle sticks
  1. Cut the hot dogs in half insert the popsicle sticks into the hot dog. Make sure the hot dogs are dry .
  2. In a bowl mix the dry ingredients together. Then in another small bowl whisk together the egg, milk and honey. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl and mix until combined.
  3. You will need about 3-5 inches of oil and Add pour it in a large cast iron pot, or a deep fat fryer will work too. Use a deep fry thermometer to get the temp to 350
  4. While the oil is heating up pour your batter into a large pyrex measuring cup (this just makes it easier to dip the dogs into) Dip each hot dog into the batter then gently put them into the hot oil. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes turning gently about halfway through. Transfer them to a paper towel lined sheet. Serve with your favorite condiments.
  5. When dipping the hot dogs in the corn batter I found it easiest when I poured the batter in my Pyrex measuring cup
