Homemade green bean casserole is a classic side dish that goes with almost any meal. It is easy to make and everyone loves it! This version uses fresh onions, bacon, and cheese to kick it up a notch!
Take Green Beans and slice in half. Steam in a steaming basketfor 10 minutes to almost cooked.
In a large 12” Skillet fry the bacon pieces until crispy.
Add the diced yellow onion and cook until translucent.
Add the mushrooms and garlic and cook for about 5 minutes, until the mushrooms are soft.
Remove this mixture to a plate and set it aside.
Add the butter and flour to the same skillet and cook on medium heat until the flour starts to change color. About 5 minutes.
Add the cheeses, mushroom soup, and bone broth, On the same medium heat continuously stirring to combine.
Add the mushroom mixture back with the black pepper and thyme and stir to combine.
Last, add the green beans and toss until well mixed.
Add this mixture to a 9x13 casserole dish and sprinkle the French fried onions evenly over the top.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, uncovered. If you feel the onions are cooking too much on top place a piece of foil over them during the last few minutes. You’ll want the dish to be bubbling when you take it out.
