Heat a large skillet on medium high heat and add the ground beef. Cook the beef breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
Add in the onions, green peppers and cook 2-3 minutes just until softened.
Add in the minced garlic, garlic powder, salt and pepper and sauté another 30 seconds.
Stir in the ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce, and let simmer 2-3 minutes and remove from the heat.
Heat a large skillet or griddle on medium low heat. Butter one side of your bread and place it butter side down into the skillet.
Add the sloppy joe mixture and gently press.
Add your cheese on top.
Followed by the remaining buttered bread and press gently. Cook until it is golden brown then flip and cook until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Serve while hot!
Notes
I use Texas toast bread but any kind of sturdy bread will work great. We prefer a thick slice of American cheese but you can use whatever kind you prefer. The Sloppy Joe mixture can be made in advance and reheated, making assembly quick and easy.
