This warm Caramel Apple Crisp features crisp, tart, sliced Granny Smith Apples coated with cinnamon and sugar, lathered in a smooth and sweet caramel sauce, and covered with the perfect golden brown, old fashioned oat crisp topping!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread 1 tablespoon softened butter in a 10-inch cast iron skillet or baking dish.
Peel, core, and slice the apples about 1/4 inch thick and place them into a medium bowl. Toss them with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt and place them into the prepared skillet or baking dish.
Drizzle the caramel over the apples.
For The Topping
In a medium bowl add the flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, oats and cold butter. Mix using a fork or your hands until crumbly. Spread evenly over apples.
Bake 30-40 minutes or until apples are tender and caramel is bubbly.
Serve with vanilla ice cream and extra caramel sauce!

Notes
If you don't want to make this in a cast iron skillet, you can use a baking dish. Just keep an eye on it as it cooks. Store bought caramel sauce is fine or make my homemade version.I like using tart apples like Granny Smith, but if you prefer something sweeter, you can try that.
