Ingredients Needed

  • Frozen Tortellini: Fresh can also be used.
  • Olive Oil
  • Chicken: Large chicken breasts or chicken tenders are my go-tos, but you could use chicken thighs instead if you prefer.
  • Seasonings: I use a combination of salt, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Fresh Garlic: Feel free to use jarred garlic or garlic paste for easier prep, but fresh garlic cloves will always taste best!
  • All Purpose Flour: Helps thicken the sauce.
  • Chicken Stock: I prefer using chicken broth or beef broth to add more flavor to the sauce, but vegetable broth also works fine.
  • Tomato Paste
  • Heavy Cream
  • Sundried Tomatoes: A crucial ingredient for marry me chicken, sun-dried tomatoes offer a delicate balance of sweet and tart flavors!
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • Fresh Basil Leaves

How to Make this Marry Me Chicken Tortellini

Steps 1 through 4 for making marry me chicken tortellini.
  • Step 1: In a large skillet, heat olive oil and add diced chicken pieces with seasonings.
  • Step 2: Saute the chicken for 8 to 10 minutes, or until cooked through. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds more.
  • Step 3: Add the flour and cook for another minute or two.
  • Step 4: Pour in the chicken broth and tomato paste and simmer until slightly thickened.
Steps 5 and 6 for making chicken tortellini.
  • Step 5: Reduce to low heat and mix in the cheese, sun dried tomatoes, heavy cream, and red chili flakes.
  • Step 6: Fold in cooked tortellini and fresh basil. Serve and garnish with more Parmesan if desired.

Recipe Tips

  • If you don't have tortellini pasta, you could also just use regular short cut pasta.
  • If you have leftovers, allow the pasta to cool and transfer to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.
  • To reheat, microwave the chicken pasta in small portions. Or, add everything back to a pot on the stove on medium heat. You may need to add some more chicken stock or heavy cream to get everything nice and creamy again.
  • I recommend cooking the tortellini to al dente. Otherwise, it might get mushy in the sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 ounces frozen cheese tortellini about 3 cups
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound chicken tender or breast diced into small cubes
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sun dried tomatoes roughly chopped
  • ยฝ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ยผ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped basil

Instructions
 

  • Cook the tortellini to al dente according to the pkg directions. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large 12 inch skillet on medium high heat. Add the diced chicken, and sprinkle the paprika, garlic powder and salt over the chicken.
  • Saute the chicken for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through. Add in the minced garlic and cook another 30 seconds.
  • Sprinkle in the flour and cook another 1-2 minutes.
  • Add in the chicken stock and tomato paste and let simmer for 4-5 minutes or just until thickened.
  • Reduce the heat to medium low and add in the heavy cream, sun dried tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes until combined.
  • Fold in the cooked pasta and fresh basil.
  • Sprinkle with more Parmesan cheese and serve!

Notes

I prefer using frozen tortellini but fresh will also work fine.
You can freeze any leftover tomato paste you have for another meal.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
