Labeled ingredients for slow cooker steak bites.
  • Stew Meat: Chuck roast, arm roast, and shank steak are some of the most common varieties of stew meat.

  • Garlic and Onion: Fresh minced garlic is always recommended.
  • Creole Seasoning: Provides a bold and savory blend of flavors.
  • Onion Soup Mix: Adds so much flavor to the sauce.
  • Unsalted Butter: Creates the perfect sauce mixed with the soup mix and juices from the beef.

Recipe FAQ's

How do you know when steak bites are done cooking?

Because of the way these steak bites are cooked, it's unlikely that they'll end up undercooked. If you want to test to be sure, use a digital thermometer to check for an internal temperature of about 145 degrees F for medium-done steak bites.

Can you put raw steak in the slow cooker?

Yes, as long as you fully cook the steak bites, it's perfectly safe to add them to the slow cooker raw. Slow cooking is a great way to get perfectly tender bites of steak every time without fail!

Can I add vegetables?

Definitely—carrots, onions, or mushrooms are great add-ins. Just cut them into larger chunks so they don’t break down too much.

What is stew meat?

Stew meat is beef that has been cut into bite-sized cubes, typically from tougher, less expensive parts of the cow that become tender when cooked slowly in liquid.
Common cuts used for stew meat include:
Chuck (the most common and often the best choice)
Round
Bottom round
Brisket
Shoulder
Because these muscles get a lot of use, they contain more connective tissue (collagen). When you simmer them for 2–4 hours, the collagen breaks down into gelatin, making the meat juicy and tender.
