Recipe Tips

  • Once the sauce is combined, I recommend refrigerating at least 20 to 30 minutes to let the flavors develop and come together.
  • Be sure to taste the sauce before storing it. You may want to adjust some of the proportions or add more seasonings to taste.
  • I recommend using fresh ingredients when it comes to the garlic and lime juice, but in a pinch you can use jarred garlic and bottled lime juice to cut down on prep time.

Recipe FAQ's

How long does avocado sauce last?

When stored properly in the refrigerator, avocado sauce will last anywhere from 2 to 4 days.

How do I keep avocado lime sauce from turning brown?

Use plastic wrap and press it directly against the surface of the sauce to prevent browning. You can also squeeze some extra lime juice on top to help. Even if a bit of browning does occur, as long as you enjoy the sauce within a few days it should be fine to eat.

Can I make this avocado lime sauce without cilantro?

Absolutely! If you're not a fan of cilantro, you can substitute some parsley or just leave out the fresh herbs altogether.

Can I make cilantro avocado sauce ahead of time?

Making the sauce a day or so ahead of time can actually allow the flavors to meld and develop as the sauce sits in the fridge.

What can I serve with cilantro avocado sauce?

Pair this sauce with all of your favorite Mexican dishes, grilled meats, seafood, as a dip with tortilla chips or vegetables, or even as a creamy salad dressing!
