Homemade Yum Yum Sauce is the ultimate condiment to add to your arsenal. It can be used on so many dishes, taking the flavor profiles to all new levels, and will make you feel like the chef master!
If you've ever visited any of your local Japanese Hibachi restaurants, I'm sure you know about the coveted dipping sauce. It's a simple Japanese white sauce that they use for meat and seafood and many people have used on just about everything else they order at the Japanese restaurants. It's that good.
This famous Japanese steakhouse sauce is good on rice, grilled steak, shrimp, chicken, and so much more- like Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls and Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets!
Why This Yummy Sauce Works
Being able to make your own homemade Yum Yum sauce recipe can save you lots of money by not having to visit the hibachi grills as often. Plus, you can make this hibachi sauce at home when you're making your own versions of the fried rice, or steak.
And, it gives you the opportunity to try it on more dishes than just Japanese food!
Delicious Yum Yum Sauce Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: Opt for full fat, not the light mayo. Since this is a mayo base sauce, you need to use the right kind.
- Ketchup: Any brand will do.
- Granulated sugar
- Spices: salt, regular paprika, and garlic powder
- Rice vinegar: adds a tangy zing of flavor that is needed for this popular sauce. Don't skip it.
- Water: to get it to the right consistency
How to Make Homemade Yum Yum Sauce
- Step 1: In a medium bowl, mix main ingredients together, minus the water.
- Step 2: Add one tablespoon of water at a time if needed to get your mayo-based sauce to the right consistency before chilling in the fridge.
Recipe Tips
- As much as you want to skip the chill time- DON'T! The key to getting that restaurant flavor in your homemade sauces is to let the flavors meld together while it's chilling in the fridge.
- Store your tangy sauce leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Stir before using. Ours never seems to last that long because we are trying to dip everything we can get our hands on in that delicious sauce.

I did have this sauce at a restaurant and looked up how to make it when I got home. Your recipe tasted just the same and was so easy to make. I used the leftovers for an oriental salad dressing.
