- Parmesan Cheese: This is makes a great garnish and adds some extra cheesy flavor.
How to Make these Pepperoni Pinwheels
- Step 1: Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle and coat with a thin layer of pizza sauce. Sprinkle the garlic over top.
- Step 2: Cover the pizza sauce with a layer of mozzarella cheese slices.
- Step 3: On top of the cheese, add a layer of pepperoni and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
- Step 4: Rolling from the long side make a long roll out of the dough, sealing the edges to keep the fillings inside.
- Step 5: Use a serrated knife to cut the log into even pieces.
- Step 6: Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil and bake until golden brown.
Recipe Tips
- Use a rolling pin or another cylindrical object to evenly spread out the pizza dough.
- If you can't find pizza dough at the store, you can also make this pizza pinwheels with crescent roll dough.
- Fill these with your favorite pizza toppings like olives, browned ground beef, bell peppers, chopped broccoli, or spinach.
- If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
- Reheat leftover pinwheels in the oven or in an air fryer. Microwaving them will make them soggy or soft.
- Be sure to use a nice sharp knife to cut the pinwheels to prevent them from falling apart as you form them.
Recipe FAQ's
Make sure to leave a little bit of empty space at the edge of the dough. This will ensure that you can seal the edge when you're finished rolling it up. If you're worried about the pinwheels falling apart, you can also stick toothpicks into the rolls while they bake.
Yes, you can freeze them either before or after you bake them. Freeze the entire log or cut it into the pinwheels first, then keep them in an airtight container or plastic bag in the freezer. Allow them to thaw before cutting, or if they're already cut you could bake them right from frozen.
You can also freeze the baked pinwheels for a couple of months. Reheat them in the oven until crispy and golden again.
