Ingredients Needed

Labelled ingredients for 7-up biscuits.
  • Bisquick: You can also use a pre-made biscuit mix, but Bisquick works great and I usually have it in the pantry anyway.
  • Sour Cream: Prevents your biscuits from drying out and gives them a slightly tangy flavor.
  • 7-Up: Any kind of lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or Starry) also works just fine!
  • Unsalted Butter

How to Make these 7-Up Biscuits

Steps 1 through 4 for making 7-up biscuits.
  • Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and Bisquick using a fork or pastry blender.
  • Step 2: Pour the 7-Up directly into the large bowl and mix into the dry ingredients.
  • Step 3: Once a dough forms, sprinkle more Bisquick onto your cutting board and turn out the biscuit dough. Roll it out into a 1-inch thick layer.
  • Step 4: Use a biscuit cutter or any circular cookie cutter to punch circles from the dough.
Steps 5 and 6 for making 7-up biscuits.
  • Step 5: In a cast iron skillet, melt your butter.
  • Step 6: Place cut biscuits in a single layer in the melted butter and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown and fluffy.

Recipe Tips

Lifting a 7 up biscuit from a skillet.
  • After baking, allow the biscuits to sit for about 5 minutes to absorb any remaining butter.
  • If you don't have a cast iron skillet, you can also use a 9x9 baking dish.
  • No biscuit cutter? The lid of a mason jar or even a wide cup is great to cut out the circles.
  • Diet soda is not recommended for these biscuits--the sugars from the drink are important for the final result.
  • These biscuits are typically best enjoyed the day of, but if you have leftover biscuits, store in an airtight container or plastic bag. You can either keep them in the fridge or on the counter, but either way they'll be good for 1 to 2 days.
  • To freeze your biscuits, prepare the dough and cut out the shapes, then freeze before baking. Use parchment paper if you have multiple layers of biscuits to prevent them from sticking. You can bake them directly from frozen with a few extra minutes of baking time.

Recipe FAQ's

Does 7-Up have caffeine in it?

No, this is a non-caffeinated soda. Most lemon-lime sodas don't have caffeine unless it's specifically added.

Are 7-Up biscuits the same as drop biscuits?

The dough for these 7-Up biscuits is very similar to that of drop biscuits, which tends to be a little bit more sticky than traditional biscuit dough. Drop biscuits may not have the same sweetness to them.

What is Bisquick?

This store-bought baking mix is often used for baked goods like biscuits, pancakes, or waffles and includes all the dry ingredients you need. To make your own, combine flour, corn starch, sugar, baking soda, and salt. You may also need a splash of vegetable oil.
