Lobster mac and cheese in a white baking dish with a scoop missing and a wooden spoon.Mac and cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods. Combine it with rich chunks of lobster meat and you have a meal nobody can resist. It can be the star of the meal or a delicious holiday side dish.

A serving of lobster mac and cheese on a white plate.Where do I buy lobster meat?

Most stores carry frozen lobster chunks in the seafood department. I usually grab mine at Costco. Or you can grab some lobster tails and make my Broiled lobster Tails and cut them into pieces.

Four process photos. First one, butter and garlic being melted in a cast iron skillet. Second one, flour added to the ,melted butter. Third one, half n half and spices added to the skillet. Fourth one, shredded cheese added into the mixture.Tips for making lobster mac and cheese

    • Always salt the pasta water
    • Cook pasta to al dente, the pasta will cook more in the oven while baking.
    • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to spice things up a bit.
    • Use other short pasta like penne, rigatoni, or elbow macaroni if you choose.
    • Don’t use pre-grated cheese, it never melts as smoothly as freshly grated.

cooked pasts and lobster meat placed in a white baking dish. Second one, cheese sauce added on top. Third one, bread crumb mixture mixed together in a small bowl. Fourth one, bread crumb mixture sprinkled on top. Can I use different cheese?

I use white cheddar and Gruyere. Gruyere is commonly paired with seafood. Gouda, Havarti, or Monterey jack are also good choices.

Why is my cheese sauce gritty?

Using pre-grated cheese can cause your sauce to be grainy. Or adding cheese to a boiling sauce will cause the cheese to break down and cause a grainy texture.

What to serve with lobster mac and cheese?

Whether you serve this as the star of the meal or a delicious side dish. Lobster mac and cheese is a rich dish. So a nice simple protein like Pan Seared Garlic rib Eye Steak. Or my Roasted Broccoli or Roasted Asparagus.
