Ingredients Needed
- Shredded Beef: You'll want to make sure the beef is in bite-sized thin pieces to make these sandwiches easier to eat.
- Peppers and Onions: I like green bell peppers, but feel free to combine the green peppers with other colors or swap them out entirely.
- Hawaiian Rolls: Any small slider rolls will work fine, but Hawaiian sweet rolls are by far my favorite for making these sandwiches.
- Cheese: I use a combination of American cheese and gooey provolone cheese, but use what you prefer.
- Everything Bagel Seasoning: This is an optional garnish for the top of the rolls, but it adds so much savory flavor!
How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
- Step 1: Cook the beef in a large skillet until it's no longer pink, about 5 to 8 minutes.
- Step 2: Add strips of pepper and onions and cook until softened.
- Step 3: Remove the beef mixture from the skillet and drain out any excess fat or grease.
- Step 4: Add the beef and veggies back to the skillet and add pieces of American cheese. Mix until melted.
- Step 5: Take the slider rolls and cut them in half with a sharp knife, leaving the tops and bottoms connected. Toast under the broiler for 2 minutes.
- Step 6: Add a layer of provolone cheese to the bottom half of the rolls.
- Step 7: Spoon the steak mixture over the cheese. Bake for about 5 minutes.
- Step 8: Remove from the oven, and place the tops of the rolls over the beef and veggie mixture. Brush the slider rolls with melted butter, then garnish with everything bagel seasoning and bake for 5 to 8 minutes.
Recipe Tips
Recipe Tips
- Use a nice sharp serrated knife to cut the rolls to prevent them from falling apart or tearing.
- Other varieties of cheese to use are pepper jack, cheddar, swiss, cheez whiz, or mozzarella.
- Shaved beef can often be found at the deli in your local grocery store, which can save time on prep.
- Roast beef is also a fine option--cook the veggies first and toss the roast beef in after until nice warm.
- If you're serving these for a party and want to keep them warm, cover the baking tray with aluminum foil and keep in the oven at the lowest temperature setting. The warming drawer should also work!
- Leftover sliders can be kept in an airtight container or wrapped tightly with plastic wrap in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Reheat them in the oven, or microwave at 50%-60% power until the sandwiches are heated through.
Recipe FAQ's
Provolone cheese is a perfect choice, but you could also use something like cheese whiz which is often used for authentic Philly cheesesteaks.
For a truly authentic cheesesteak, you'll want to use a nice boneless ribeye steak sliced thin, and quality rolls. Fresh garlic and/or garlic powder is also commonly used in Philly cheesesteaks.
