Why this taco seasoning works
Homemade chicken taco seasoning is a great way to add flavor to any dish. It's incredibly easy to make, and you can use it for tacos, burritos, bowls, salads, soups and more!
Plus, when you make your own seasoning, you know exactly what simple ingredients are in it since you choose them yourself. This recipe takes only minutes to put together and is sure to become a family favorite.
Making your own taco seasoning is healthier and usually contains less sodium than the store-bought packets.

- Chili Powder: Made from dried chilis

- Dried Oregano:
- Garlic Powder: Granulated garlic can also be used.
- Onion Powder: Made from dehydrated onions.
- Salt: I like to use Kosher salt.
- Black Pepper:
- Ground Coriander: This comes from dried cilantro seeds.
- Paprika: I like to use smoked paprika but regular will also work.
- Chipotle Chili Pepper: You can use red pepper flakes if you prefer.
How to make Homemade Chicken Taco Seasoning

- Add all the spices to a small bowl and mix with a wooden spoon until all is mixed well. Taste the spice blend and add more cayenne pepper according to your personal preference and desired level of spiciness.

Recipe Tips
- If you're sensitive to specific flavors in this spice mix, start with smaller amounts and taste the spice mixture as you mix it. Add more if needed.
- Make a big batch of this seasoning to have on hand when you're making all of your Mexican-inspired favorite recipes during those upcoming busy weeknights. If making a big batch you may want to double or triple the amounts.
- It's really important to use fresh spices so they bring the most flavor. Ground spices start to lose their flavor and potency after 6 months.
- You can use this blend in place of regular taco seasoning in any of your favorite recipes.
- If you like more heat, try adding some red pepper flakes.

Recipe Faq's
When stored properly in an airtight container, like a mason jar, in a cool dark place, the taco seasoning can last for several months. However, for the best flavor it is recommended to use it within 3-6 months.
Take any cut of chicken or protein you desire and generously sprinkle and rub the seasoning into the chicken. Then cook using your desired method; if using chicken, ensure it reaches 165°F before eating. You could also use this as fajita seasoning.
The general rule is that you need about 2 tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning for every pound of meat.
Try adding some Mexican oregano for a little more Mexican flavor. You could also increase the ground cumin. That's the best part about this kind of recipe is, you have control of the ingredients
and use different spices that you prefer when making homemade seasonings like this.
