A holiday meal doesn't have to be labor-intensive and time-consuming this slow-cooker ham recipe requires very little effort! like my Slow Cooker Turkey Breast. The slow cooker frees up time and oven space for those delicious side dishes like my Honey Garlic Roasted Carrots or Green Bean Casserole. If you have any leftover ham the next day use them in my Breakfast Casserole, Scalloped Potatoes and Ham, or my Slow Cooker Sausage and Cheesy Potatoes

    Why this recipe works

The slow cooker does all the work for you, and the most fantastic glaze caramelizes to perfection. With just 10 minutes of prep and the results are a tender ham your family and guests will love. This easy ham recipe can also be made in the oven or you may want to try my Root Beer Glazed Ham.

    Ingredients needed

All the ingredients needed for this recipe.

    Ingredient notes

    • Ham: Fully-cooked 7-8 pound ham, I use a spiral-cut ham.
    • Butter: Unsalted butter, ham already has a lot of salt.
    • Brown Sugar: I used dark but light brown sugar will also work.

How much ham do you need per person?

The general rule is about 1/2 pound per person, some people will eat more or less but its always delicious to have leftovers.

    How to make this recipe

Butter and honey mixed together in a small bowl.the sugar and spices mixed in another small bowl.
    • Step 1: In a small bowl mix together the melted butter and honey until combined.
    • Step 2: In another small bowl mix together the sugar and spices and set aside.
Butter honey mixture poured on top of a spiral ham. Then cooked in the slow cooker.
    • Step 3: Place ham in the slow cooker and drizzle the honey butter over the ham.
    • Step 4: Cook until heated through.
Brown sugar mixture sprinkled on top and cooked to perfection.
    • Step 5: Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the top of the ham and finish cooking.
    • Step 6: Remove the crock pot insert or place the ham on a baking pan and under the broiler to caramelize, serve with the remaining glaze at the bottom of the slow cooker.

    Recipe tips

    • A large 7-8 quart slow cooker works best for this recipe. I like this one.
    • Use a meat thermometer to confirm the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • To thicken the remaining glaze add it to a small saucepan whisk in a teaspoon or two of corn starch and let simmer until thickened.
    • Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to four days or freeze for up to 3 months.

What kind of ham should I use?

I highly recommend sticking with a fully cooked bone-in ham for this recipe. I prefer a spiral cut ham mainly because it's already sliced. A Butt-end ham will also work great in your crock pot.

Will ham dry out in the crockpot?

No, as long as you don't overcook it. You're basically just reheating your crockpot ham and while you may be tempted to use high heat you will run the risk of overcooking it causing it to be dry. Using low heat is best in order to get a nice juicy ham.

How long do I cook a fully cooked ham in the slow cooker?

It takes about 3-4 hours to heat a ham in the crock pot on the low setting. Check to ensure your ham is heated all the way to the center. You can use a digital meat thermometer to ensure your ham reaches 140 degrees.

Can this honey-glazed ham be made in the oven?

Of course! Place the ham in a large roasting pan with a lid or use a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil. Bake at 325°F for 15-20 minutes per pound. The internal temperature should read 140°F when it’s all done.

What to serve with this ham

    • A baking dish with corn casserole in it and a serving missing.
      Corn Pudding Casserole
    • Bacon jalapeno mac n cheese on a black plate
      Bacon Jalapeño Mac n' Cheese
    • Green beans and bacon all in a skillet with a wooden spoon on the side.
      Green Beans with Bacon
    • Creamy mashed potatoes in a white bowl.

    Ingredients

    • 7-8 pound spiral ham *See notes
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
    • 3 tablespoons honey
    • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
    • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

    Instructions

    • Place ham into a large slow cooker (I use a  7qt)
    • In a small bowl mix together melted butter and honey and drizzle over the ham. Cover and cook on low for 2 1/2 hours. (see notes)
    • In a medium bowl add sugar, onion powder, paprika, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and mix. Sprinkle mixture over top of the ham, making sure to get in between the slices. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook for another 30 minutes to caramelize.
    • Place the ham on a baking sheet or if your slow cooker has an insert remove it from the slow cooker and place that under the broiler for 3-5 minutes to get a caramelized texture.

    Notes

I used a 7qt slow cooker. If your ham is too tall to be able to put the lid on. You can slice it a little off the bottom so it sits lower. Just place the sliced pieces on the side of the ham.
Keep in mind it will heat a little more under the broiler.
To thicken the remaining glaze add it to a small saucepan whisk in a teaspoon or two of corn starch and let simmer until thickened.
Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to four days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Would you recommend slicing the entire ham prior to cooking if using boneless? Love your recipes by BTW!

      Thanks

You can use a regular ham. I just find a spiral is easier to fit.

The top of the recipe says cook time is 2 hrs (total of 2 hrs 10 minutes), but the recipe says 3 hrs. Which is correct? Thank you!
